Some exciting news from the London Pole Vault Academy who are supported by Everyone Active and train at Sutton Arena - Sergey Bubka, 6 times World Champion pole vaulter and an Olympic gold medallist, is to be patron for the academy.
Sergey is widely regarded as a living legend that has broken the world pole vaulting world record a staggering 35 times and burst on the scene at the age of 19 winning the inaugural World Championships of Athletics. Sergey still holds the current outdoor world record of 6.14 meters set in 1994 and the current indoor world record of 6.15 meters set in 1993.
Allan Williams Founder and Senior Coach at The London Pole Vault Academy commented, “I am absolutely delighted that the great Sergey Bubka has agreed to become the Patron of The London Pole Vault Academy. Not only has he agreed to the honorary position but he wants to play an active role in developing pole vaulting in the region. This is an amazing opportunity for young athletes already involved in the event plus others who are yet to be inspired. Sergey has offered to meet with me when he is in London for the Olympic Games later this summer and together we will take some coaching sessions for the Academy and discuss its general development.
I am proud to be driving such a wonderful initiative and grateful for the ongoing involvement of Everyone Active at Sutton Arena for their support of pole vaulting in the region. This can do nothing but good for the event and the sport of Athletics in the legacy of the Olympic Games. Some very exciting times ahead!”
The London Pole Vault Academy will also be setting of soon for a tour of France at the end of June which will see the academy compete in three competitions and allow vaulters to gain invaluable competition experience.
