Fewer and fewer children every year are getting actively involved in sports which is leading to the crisis that the UK as a nation is facing – we are all becoming increasingly unhealthy. The challenge for children is even bigger – the recognised recommendation is that children under the age of 11 need to take part in 60 minutes of activity seven days a week – and that’s a big commitment.
But with Sony and Nintendo fighting a war to get our kids to become couch potatoes parents are often in a losing battle to get their children interested in activity. That’s why Everyone Active, who operate 55 leisure centres throughout the UK, are providing 30,000 places for kids to be active.
Throughout the UK, Everyone Active leisure centres are committed to getting children under the age of 11 more active by offering a variety of kids courses. The type of activities available include:
- Under 5s activities
- trampolining
- mini gym
- bouncy castle/soft play
- Sporting FUNdamentals
- Fun swimming sessions
- Swimming lessons
- Activity birthday parties
We are actively encouraging children to use more of the services that we have available at our centres,” comments Luke Parratt, children’s activities manager for SLM. “It’s really important for kids to learn at an early age that activity can be really enjoyable and using the facilities available at the local leisure centre is a great way of getting the 60 minutes of activity that they need everyday to stay healthy.”
