Double Olympic gold medal winner, Dame Kelly Holmes, officially opened the new Lammas Leisure Centre in Sutton in Ashfield hailing it as one of the best equipped leisure centres she had visited.
Boasting an extensive range of facilities this state-of-the-art centre includes a 6 lane 25m swimming pool with ample spectator seating, learner pool, 4 court sports hall, 100 station gym fitness suite featuring the latest fitness equipment from Precor and 3 studios which will house a programme of over 30 group exercise and spin classes each week. A purpose built Crèche, 2 squash courts, an ice skating rink and a bowls hall completes the mix. Over £16 million has been invested by the Ashfield District Council to dramatically improve the quality of leisure facilities offered in the area. The impressive centre, which will be operated by Sports and Leisure Management Ltd (SLM), under the Everyone Active brand further strengthening the partnership SLM has with Ashfield District Council.
Dame Kelly Holmes commented, "I have had a look around and am really impressed by what I have seen. This is a fantastic facility for the area, there is something for everyone. The centre will really help people take up sport and I hope the public really comes out and makes the most of what they have on their doorstep. Having state-of-the-art leisure centres like this will really help the sports stars of the future to achieve their goals."
