Two local Everyone Active centres have joined with Premiership rugby team Saracens to form a community sports partnership that is designed to get kids more active.
The long term deal will see both Watford Leisure Centre Woodside and Central play host to groups of local children from throughout the Hertfordshire area before every home game at Saracens. The children will spend a morning at the leisure facilities where they will take part in a wide range of different sporting activities. The kids and their families will then have the opportunity to experience a Saracens match day at Vicarage Road Stadium, courtesy of Everyone Active.
The children involved in this partnership will come from schools that are participating in existing Saracens community programmes. “The idea behind linking Everyone Active with Saracens is to help get kids in the area more active,” comments Duncan Jefford, Regional Director for SLM who operate both the leisure centres in Watford. “By working with the Saracens Sport Foundation, the charitable arm of Saracens Rugby Club, we are getting to kids who already have an interest in sport and we are helping to encourage them to try different sorts of activities at the two centres.”
Commenting on the partnership, Gordon Banks, Foundation Director at Saracens said, “We are delighted to have the two Everyone Active centres on board as a community partner. We share the same values and goals when it comes to getting kids more active and providing opportunities for them to try a range of activities so that they can find one that suits them. We are certain that the kids will enjoy the excellent facilities at the leisure centres and provide great support to ‘Sarries’ at our home matches.”
Saracens next home match is against Gloucester in the Guinness Premiership on Sunday 16th November. During the morning of the match, Woodside Leisure Centre will play host to children who have participated in the Saracens Community Dance programme, supported by Tesco, over the last half-term. Children from selected Hertfordshire primary schools have been invited to participate in a Dance Festival, where they will be able to demonstrate their new cheerleading skills to their families. The morning will include a dance-off for the chance to perform in front of around 10,000 Saracens fans during the Gloucester match.
