SLM secured the partnership contract after a rigorous procurement procedure with Bristol City Council. These include Easton Leisure Centre, Henbury Leisure Centre, Bristol South swimming Pool, Kingsdown Sports Centre, St Pauls Community Sports Academy, Horfield Leisure Centre, Jubilee Swimming Pool and Bishopsworth Swimming Pool.
The partnership will see improved provisions across all of the sites, an increase in choice and range of activities, access to all section of the community offering great value for money with more opportunities for everyone to be active and make the most of their leisure time.
Over the 10 years the plans are to enhance and develop five gyms. Already over £1.3 million has been invested into Kingsdown Leisure Centre and Easton Leisure Centre which opened in late September 2007 with record visitor numbers. Other plans will see four dance studios, six swimming pools and five sports halls develop, and the partnership will include the launch of new activity initiatives to engage with the local community and encourage everyone to participate in 30 minutes of activity 5 times each week. The first of these programmes is called ‘Sporting Fundamentals’ – a sports activity programme for children aged 11 and under.
Gary Teagle, Deputy Partnership Manager said, “The future looks very good for the Bristol contract with SLM now operating the facilities. We will achieve increased participation, quality products and better customer service, which is exactly what our customers want.”
