What is live healthier havering – learning disability?

Live Healthier Havering – Learning Disability provides free practical support and guidance to make healthy lifestyle changes as part of your daily routine and achieve a healthy weight. The programme is 12 weeks long with follow ups to help continue the positive changes to your eating habits and physical activity level.

The learning disability programme is for adults (aged 18+) with a mild to moderate learning disability supported by their carers/family member and consists of group-based sessions. All programmes are led by qualified weight management and exercise specialists alongside a Sport for Confidence Occupational Therapist so you will receive expert and up-to-date support free of charge.

WHAT DOES Live Healthier Havering INVOLVE?

We require you to be motivated to making lifestyle changes and commit to attending a weekly 2 hour session for 12 weeks consisting of a 1 hour education session which is fun and broken down for easy understanding. This is followed by a 45 minute inclusive physical activity session.  We have experience of working with people with disabilities and the programme will include a 1-1 initial appointment where individual needs can be further discussed.

The education session covers subjects such as:

  • the eatwell guide and food labelling
  • portion sizes
  • emotional and comfort eating
  • movement
  • making healthy eating and physical activity part of your routine

The physical activity session:

  • caters to all abilities
  • supports your own goals
  • provides a fun and supportive environment for you to increase your physical activity levels safely

You will be offered a confidential weight and measuring service at the start of each session so we can support and track your progress.

We require participant information which will be used for monitoring and evaluation of their progress throughout the 12 week programme.  On completion of the scheme you will be supported to maintain your weight loss and healthy lifestyle journey.
