Kids Activities

All our activities are taught by fully qualified coaches who bring fun and enjoyment to their sports.  We are working with partner National Governing Bodies to ensure all sessions work towards national plans of sport and that we are able to spot talent and that there are exit routes where possible if children want to take their sport further.

To book onto any activities simply book online, over the phone or pop into reception.

Mini Activities (Under 5's)

Gymnastics and Trampoline Various times (parent & toddler or courses) from £4.60 p/session

Throughout the week there are a number of sessions available for everyone to enjoy gymnastics and trampolining. There are a number of ways you can join in these sports. We offer courses for children ages 3+ which encourage growth and development in key skills such as balance, flexibility and agility. The children can start picking up the basic skills which are used in many sports and work towards British Gymnastics badges*.

Another session we offer is parent & toddler sessions. These are aimed at under 3's and require the parents to stay with their children in the sports hall to take part where necessary. During these sessions the children can work towards British Gymnastics FUNdemental awards* whilst having fun with all the equipment and parachute.

Finally if you want to try gymnastics and trampolining and don't want to commit, try out our pay as you go sessions. During this time the emphasis is on the parent to engage the children and take part in the activities. A coach will be present during the session and will ensure all activities are safe but this is a great time for parents to get involved.

*Please note: Any badges and certificates awarded are a seperate cost of £2 which can be bought from reception.

Mini Dribblers Tuesday 10am & Sunday 9am (3-5 years) £4.60 p/session (term time only)

For all you budding footballers out there this is a great pre-school course for you. FA qualified staff will take you through a number of fun games and drills which will work on your dribbling, shooting and passing. With specially adapted balls used so they are not too big and coaches who are great with kids this session will help move you onto the next stage in your footballing career.

Toddle Together Monday 12.00pm (crawl - 4 years) 1.00pm (0 - crawl) £4.50 p/session

This is a class which explores dance, movement, storytelling, song and play with parents and children dancing together. If you want to have some fun with your child and get fit at the same time then come along and join in the fun.

Creche Monday - Friday 9.00am- 1.00pm £2.55 p/hour

Although not technically an activity, there is no excuse for you not getting active in the morning with the creche available for your little ones. Drop in at anytime to meet the staff and sign your child up to become and Everyone Active member - this will make it quicker to get going on your first visit. The staff are friendly and happy to answer any questions or queries you may have.

Junior Activities (6-16yrs)

Gymnastics

Gymnastics and Trampoline Various times from £4.60 p/session

Trampoline Monday 5.00pm (13 years - adult) Saturday 1.00pm (13-16 years) 11am & 2.00pm (16+ years) £4.60 p/session (term time only)

For those slightly older customers who want to try out our trampolines this course is for you. Trampolining is an enjoyable way to get and keep fit and there are plenty of challenges to keep you busy. You will be working towards British Gymnastics awards and there is no better way to have some fun with your friends.

Squash

Squash Monday 3.45pm (5-8 years), 4.30pm (8-11 years), 5.15pm (11+ years) / Saturday 9.00am (5-8 years) 9.45am (8-11 years), 10.30am (11+ years)

For any juniors interested in squash there is plenty to get involved in at the Life Centre with sessions run with our partners the England Squash and Racketball Association. On Mondays during term time we run courses which will develop players within the sport over a period of time building them up to be better players and working on all skills needed for the game.

If you are not sure you want to commit to a course or just want to try out some coaching then come along to one of the pay as you go sessions which run on Saturdays or Mondays during holiday time. This will give you a good flavour of the sport and is also coached so all are welcome from beginners right through to people who have been playing for a while.

Our resident coach Duncan is also working on putting in place some great developmental pathways which will lead to a junior elite session aimed at those juniors who want to take the sport seriously and will start to introduce competitive games. Keep your eyes open for when this takes off or speak to Duncan if you are interested.

Junior Football Sunday 10am (6-8 years) £4.60 p/session (term time only)

For all you budding footballers out there this is a great course for you. Athletics Tuesday 4.00pm (5-7 years) 5.00pm (8-11pm)

Kids Athletics

These athletics sessions have begun to really take off and are becoming a very popular children's activity. Indoor athletics equipment is used alongside balls and hoops etc to create a fun environment for children to master running, jumping and throwing based skills. If the Olympics have inspired you then come along and have a go.

Hi 5 Netball Friday 6.00pm (9-12 years) £4.60 p/session (term time only)

Kids Athletics

Hi 5 Netball is an initiative set up by our partners England Netball to encourage younger players into the game. This course uses adapted equipment to ensure players are able to master the throwing, shooting, defending and dodging side of the game before they progress into the full game.

Street Dance Tuesday 4pm (7-10yrs) and 5.00pm (11-14 years) £4.50 p/session

Learn the basic moves of street dance with our dance instructors who will have you moving to routines in no time ready to wow your friends the next time a piece of music comes on! These sessions are put on in conjunction with our partners Plymouth Dance and guarantee lots of fun and enjoyment.

Taekwondo Tuesday 6.00pm (5+) £4 p/session (externally run)

Kids Athletics

Netball Wednesday 6.00pm (12-16 years) (externally run)

Plymouth Pilgrims Netball Club have their junior sessions held at the Life Centre. If you are a keen netballer and want to join a team then contact the club www.plymouthpilgrims.co.uk or Sue on 07717 222 490.

Karate Tuesday 7.00pm (all ages) £16 p/month (externally run)

Kids Table Tennis

Table Tennis Thursday 6.00pm (family) 8.00pm (adult)

Our partners the English Table Tennis Association have a night available for people to come and try out the sport and get involved. Come along and find out is the sport is right for you and speak to Mike the coach about what other opportunities there are to get involved in the sport. The family session is a chance to engage with your children and play a sport together whereas the adult session is child free zone if you need to escape for a little bit.

Junior Badminton Club Friday 4.30pm (7-16 years) £3 p/session

Our hugely popular junior badminton club has come over from the Mayflower centre with its team of coaches and is continuing to grow. The session is there for any junior to come and play badminton and the opportunities are there to progress and be coached by qualified staff.

Working in partnership with Badminton England, we are looking to build on the existing club and become an accredited club which will be the first junior one of its kind in the area. We will also be looking to expand the session and what is on offer by producing development sessions for committed players who want to get on in the sport and start playing competitive games and fixtures.

This is a very exciting time for the club and we are also looking to develop young coaches through the system to ensure the kids taking part get the most out of what Badminton has to offer.

Youth Night Friday 7.00pm (11-17 years) £3.10 p/session

Youth night activities vary from week to week and incorporate various different activities for the participants to try out. There is always some form of swimming, diving, climbing, gym and dance available with activities in the sports hall ranging from trampolining, football, badminton, athletics, table tennis and guest appearances of activities such as parc cour.

These sessions last 2 hours and are great value for money. With the support from the Plymouth City Council's Youth Workers and Police Community Support Officers, the programme is a truely multi agency approach to getting kids off the street and involved in a more constructive activity. Judo Saturday 10.30am (5-15 years) £3.50 p/session (externally run)

Kids Roller Disco

Roller Disco Saturday 7.30pm (6.30pm from 16th March as a trial) (all ages) from £4.50 (externally run)

Here's something new for the whole family to enjoy. We are working with Sk8house to bring to you a weekly roller disco which looks to be the biggest skating area in Europe. There are over 200 pairs of skates available from child size 9 to an adult size 11 and plenty of helmets and pads are available if you are worried about falling over.

Bowls Thursday 4.30pm (7-11 years) 5.30pm (12-16 years) from £2.35 p/session

Bowls is a great activity for all youngsters and offers a new sport to try out. We are currently working at setting up a junior club and league also some junior sessions and activities so if you are interested please contact the life centre and leave your details or email plymlifecentre@slm-ltd.co.uk.

Fit For Sport - Kids Holiday Camps

Fit For Sport is UK’s leading healthy lifestyle activities provider and has been delivering Ofsted registered Kids Camps for over 20 years. Kids camps run every school holiday.

Gymnastics and Trampoline Monday - Friday 9.00am - 11.00pm or 11.00 - 13.00 (4-6 years and 7-12 years) Gymnastics

Throughout the summer we are offering courses which include 2 hours of each activity. Within this time we will encourage growth and development in key skills such as balance, flexibility and agility. The children can start picking up the basic skills which are used in many sports and work towards British Gymnastics badges*.

These courses may also be broken down into per day sessions so you can book your child into a 4 hour session per day rather than for he whole week. Booking in this way will be on a trial basis to see if it is possible to work it this way.

Alternatively we will also be offering pay as you go sessions and Parent and Toddler sessions. During this time the emphasis is on the parent to engage the children and take part in the activities. A coach will be present throughout the session and will ensure all activities are safe but this is a great time for parents to get involved.

 

Adult Activities

Trampoline Monday 5.00pm (13years - adult) Saturday 11.00am & 2.00pm (16+ years) £4.50 p/session

For those slightly older customers who want to try out our trampolines this is for you. Trampolining is an enjoyable way to get fit and keep fit, and there are plenty of challanges to keep you busy. Tea Dance with a Twist Monday 2.00pm (50+ years) £4.50 p/session

A session run by our partners Plymouth Dance, Tea Dance with a twist is a fantastic way of sharing dance memories and learning new moves. Tea and cakes provided.

Ladies Racketball Morning Tuesday 10.30am (16+ years) £3.50 p/session (incl a hot drink)

England Squash and Racketball  support our social session for ladies of any age to come and try the sport. The activity leader will arrange fun games and activities to get you moving and learning new skills but the emphasis is on fun and enjoyment in a non threatening environment. Remember the creche is open and we will even throw in a hot drink afterwards, just show your ticket at the cafe.

Over 50's Racketball Morning Wednesday 10.30am (50+ years) £3.50 p/session (incl a hot drink)

England Squash and Racketball support our social session for our 50+ customers who might want to try a new sport. The activity leader will arrange fun games and activities to get you moving to your level with an emphasis is on fun and enjoyment in a non threatening environment. We will even throw in a hot drink afterwards, just show your ticket at the cafe. drink.

Lunch Time Football Wednesday 12.00pm (16+ years) £3.50 p/session (term time only)

We are working with the Football Association to help promote football for adults and this session is perfect. If you want to turn up and play football but dont have 9 other players to set up a game then come along and 'just play'. Its during your lunch hour so there is no excuse to not come and give it a go.

Movement to Music Wednesday 1.30pm (60+) £3 p/session

Classes are designed for the over 60's and the less able so they can continue to experience and enjoy the benefits of gentle movement to music. The group often head for a drink together afterwards and so this is a very social session to be invoveld in.

Tai Chi - Thursday at 4.30pm (16+) £3.50 p/session (Free for GX members)

Tai Chi is a relaxing form of exercise available to all abilities which is also known to calm the mind and leave you feeling refreshed.

No Strings Badminton Monday 10.00am (11am holiday time) (Adults) , Wednesday 7.00pm and 8.00pm (16+ years) , Friday 6.00pm (students) £3 p/sessionKids Table Tennis

Working in partnership with Badminton England we currently run these 3 franchised sessions in order to increase participation in the sport. You do not need to have a partner to play, simply come along and join in the sessions where our    co-ordinator will organise some sessions for you. A fun light hearted session ideal for those who want to play and enjoy the sociable side of badminton.

Life Centre Badminton Club (formally Mayflower Club)  Wednesday 7.00pm (16+ years)

Our resident Badminton Club play every week and offer opportunities to play some competitive games of badminton. Linked to our Friday Junior Club, the Wednesday session is for adults and is a welcoming environment for anyone who wants to take badminon a little further. Squash Club Night Wednesday 7.30pm (16+ years) £4.10 p/session

The club night is an open club for those who wish to play against new partners or enjoy the sociable side fo squash. Our resident coach will be on hand to help organise the night but it is an informal way for you to meet new people and enjoy the game.

Racketball Coaching Thursday 6.00pm (16+ years) £4.10 p/session

The relatively new game of racketball is being developed at the Life Centre in partnership with the England Squash and Racketball Association. This session allows you to learn the game which used a slightly larger ball and racket than the origional squash game. A coach will be able to show you the basics and develop your skills. This is an ideal session for people who possibly struggle with squash or wish to take part in a slightly slower version of the game.

Beginner Squash Coaching Thursday 7.00pm (16+ years) £4.10 p/session

A coached session, this is the ideal time to come and have a go at squash without feeling intimidated. The session will start with the basics and get you to a level where you are happy to either move on or go and play the game with your friends or other players.

Intermediate Squash Coaching Thursday 8.00pm (16+ years) £4.10 p/session

This is an ideal opportunity to hone your squash skills with a qualified coach who will be able to develop your skills. If you already have the basics and are looking to improve as a player then resident coach Duncan will be able to take you further and improve your game.

Table Tennis Thursday 6.00pm (family) 8.00pm (adult) Kids Table Tennis

Afterwork Salsa Thursday 5.30pm (16+ years) £5

Another dance class provided by Plymouth Dance, learn to latin dance with this class. Salsa is a great way to have fun whilst keeping fit. No previous experience is necessary either, simply turn up and join in.

Athlefit Friday 9.30am (16+ years) £3.10 p/session (included as a class for members)

Taking the origional Olympian disciplines of running, jumping and throwing, this session offers the opportunity to experience a fitness session that is both different and unique. Here you get the opportunity to undertake activities that will help you lead a healthier life and also suppliment any other activitiy and sport you already play by building your core strength. Your level of fitness is unimportant as sessions are planned for all abilities and it may either remind you of childhood joys of school or introduce you into something you may never have tried before.

Back to Netball Friday 7.00pm (16+ years) £3.60 p/session

This session is ideal for those who may have played netball at a younger age and now want to get back into the sport. Working alongside our England Netball partners, this session is run to encourage more older people into the sport and the coach will help everyone develop their passion for the game. There are exit routes into clubs if you so wish or if you just want to keep it casual feel free to continue with these sessions.

Extra Net  Friday 8.00pm (16+ years) £3.60 p/session (back in August)

This session is a new session on trial for those Netballers who want a bit of extra coaching. It is aimed at division 4 standard of players or people who have done the back to netball sesions and want to progress. The coach will take you through some coaching points and lots of games to help you improve. Simply turn up, join in and have fun.  

Mixed Netball Summer league coming soon

There has been some demand from males who want to get invoveld in netball but are not sure where to go. England Netball are looking to develop a mixed session where men and women can learn and enjoy playing the game in a comfortable and welcoming setting. If you are interested in getting involved in this session please contact Theresa at theresa.robinson@englandnetball.co.uk.

Bowls Various sessions all days from £3.35

Bowls is a great sociable sport to get into and there is a thriving club here waiting to help you out with the game. A highly strategic game, this is suitable for all ages and abilities so there is a session for you. There are free taster sessions available all the way through to competitive leagues and county competitions so there really is something for everyone in the bowls centre.

Seniors Activities

On top of the usual Adult Activities, below you can find some information regarding sessions we run which are suitable for those aged 50+...

No Strings Badminton - Monday 10amKids Table Tennis (11am during holidays) (16+) £3.10 p/session

Come and enjoy a game of badminton with or without a partner. A qualified coach will be on hand to organise the session to help you improve your technique and skill.

(Other sessions for 16yrs + are available on Wednesday at 7pm & 8pm) 

Tea Dance with a Twist - Monday 2pm (50+) £4.50 p/session

These sessions are a fantastic way of sharing memories and learning new moves. Tea and cakes are included in this session. 

Walking Football - Tuesday 11am (50+) £3.00 p/session (term time only)

 Walking football 'does exactly what it says on the tin!' Perfect for people that enjoy the game but at a slower pace. Very tactical and lots of fun.

Classes are designed for over 60's and those that are less able. It allows you to continue to experience and enhoy the benefits of gentle movement to music.

Although this session is not aimed specifically towards senior members, we welcome you to come along and try your hand at this strategic, yet fun, sport. If you really want a challenge, you can try and beat our 'Robo-pong' Machine!! 

Adult Athlefit - Friday 9am (16+) Kids Athletics£3.10 per session (free as a class for members)

This session is also available for adults aged 16yrs + - it takes the originial Olympian disciplines of running, jumping and throwing. The Life Centre offers you the opportunity to experience a fitness session that is both different and unique.
