Fitness Suite

If you enjoy a good work out in a state of the art environment then why not try out our fitness centre at Henbury Leisure Centre.  With 65 pieces of the latest Precor, Cybex, Powerplate, Trixter and Kettle Bell equipment this is a great way to boost your fitness levels.  We have results cards designed to offer you a different work out every time and you can also book our personal trainer to provide motivation and results driven exercise plans.

If you like to work out in a group then we have got classes to suit every need.  From classes designed specifically for the 50+ market to young adult sessions – there will be something to spark your interest.  We offer the very latest in group exercise classes and techniques and offer taster sessions for smaller groups of people wanting to try out a new class.

 

Swimming Pools

With a main pool and teaching pool there is always something happening in the water.  Whether it’s our ASA accredited Swim School swimming lessons or Aqua Aerobics our wet activities offer something for everyone.  We offer results cards in the pool for those who want to use the pool to get fit and fun sessions for those who just want to relax.

 

Sports Hall

What will be happening at the centre?

Come to Henbury Leisure Centre for a fantastic and exciting day of activities. Our activities for the day will all be £1 so that people can try out all we have to offer at an affordable price. We will be running taster sessions in Rookie lifeguarding, table tennis, group exercise, Football coaching for kids, karate, Tae Kwon Do, kids Water Polo , and Basketball. As well running these fun taster sessions we will also be having public swimming and use of the gym for only £1 all day. To bring a bit of competitive spirit amongst the kids and adults we will also be running a basketball shoot out competition, with prizes going to the winners. So what you waiting for ring to get a timetable and book into these activities to avoid disappointment on the day.

FREE basketball shoot out session. See how many free throws you can get in one minute. Staff will be there to try your luck against and scores will be recorde3d with a prize going to the winner!
Mini Polo Madness!
Ages 6 – 15 Years
1pm – 2pm
Come be trained by the Bristol central Water Polo team and their excellent coaches. An activity aimed at children who have a good level of swimming and can tread water safely in the deep end of the pool. Score goals, dribble the ball in the water and hone your ball skills. This is something you have to try! Sessions are £1
Tae Kwon Do Taster
For Men, Women and Children of all ages
2pm – 3:30pm
Traditional Tae Kwon Do for all ages and abilities. A FREE session for adults and children to become more flexible, gain fitness, learn how to respect others, become more confident, and to be better at self defence. Fully qualified coaches and run by Bristol Central and West TKD.
Fun Swim
All Ages
2:30pm – 3:45pm
£1 swimming for all children and adults (children must be accompanied by an adult if under 8)

Member of the Month

April 2013 - Terrance Baxter

Terrance joined the gym at Henbury Leisure Centre in September 2012 and has achieved some outstandnig results! Since joining, he has committed himself to an excellent exercise routine, including the gym, group exercise classes and swimming on top. Terrance really has proven that variety is key when trying to achieve your goals, whatever they may be. He has also made a brilliant effort in balanving a healthy exercise routine with a healthy diet which has improved his lifestyle massivley.

Terrance we take our hat off to you, the pictures say it all and you should be very proud of yourself. To help you continue on your journey we will recieve a complimentry month membership, an Everyone Active back pack and 5 free guest passes for your friends and family.

March 2013 - Gerry Andrews

Many congratulations to Gerry for his committment and efforts in the gym over the month of March. He has achieved some great results in recent months and has attended the gym several times a week in March. Gerry has worked extrememly hard to maintain and improve his fitness and has worked closely with Mike in the gym to add free weights to his rountine which has shown some great results for Gerry. February 2013 - Ann Wilks

We would like to congratulate and reward Ann for her incredible commitment in February. She had never been to a gym before, but since joining Henbury Leisure Centre she has put in a huge amount of hard work and effort to her exercise routine. She has attended the several times each week on top of doing various exercise classes to break up her routine. January 2013 - Naomi Anderson

Naomi has been attending the gym since January 2010. She is a committed member and is always looking for a new challenge! She has done incredibly well in January attending the gym at least 4 times a week and following a training plan given by Carlos.

Her new challenge this year is to complete the 5k race for life, Bristol 10k and also the Bristol Half marathon ni September for the first time.

For Naomi's hard work and committment we have rewarded her with a free months membership, 5 guest passes and an Everyone Active bag. Well done Naomi keep it up!

December 2012 - Crispin Wall

Crispin is another of our amazing members who no matter what keeps pushing himself to the next level. Since Crispin re-joined the gym after having had some fairly serious health issues he has quite literally gone from strength to strength. We sat down and went through what we felt was a good program when he re-joined to help him get back into shape, and he exceeded our expectations for someone in his condition. He is now working hard to gain more strength and hopefully some size and is doing really well.

Crispin is a truly inspirational guy who is always happy and smiling whenever he comes into the centre, keep it up!

November 2012 - Michael O'Flaherty

Mike has been a member at Henbury Gym for 5 years and trains on a regular basis. He follows a split weights routine, trainig different muscle groups each session. He is very committed and makes no excuses in the gym!

October 2012 - Victor Palmer

Victor has been a member at henbury Leisure centre for many years and has always trained regularly for a minimum of 60-90 minutes most mornings. although Victor is limited in as to how much and what he can do due to a back condition, he does everything within his reach to keep fit and makes no excuses!

September 2012 - Sophie Woodfield

Sophie has averaged 4 sessions per week, working extrememly hard every session. she has lost 1 stone and 3 pounds in only 5 weeks, which is a great achievement. Next goal for Sohpie is to get a good time in her 10k run coming up next month!

August 2012 - Dan Woodhouse

Dan has averaged 4-5 sessions per week working hard durnig every single session. He has shown great courage by being prepared ot do everything the gym team throw at him (not literaly!). He has tried and tested a variety of workouts including interval training, weights programs, kettle bell sessions and more. Dan has been a great inspiration to some fo our members and is working hard on the right path to achievnig his goals and some fantastic results for him

July 2012 - Derek Taylor

 
I was diagnosed with Sugar Diabetes about 8 months ago and was told by the doctor the seriousness of it if not controlled; this immediately put me into panic mode, which led to Action. I asked the doctor the best way to control it and he gave me three options along with a warning, "If not controlled will cause major problems, as I get older":
  1. Lose weight and control by diet
  1. Control by tablets
  1. Control by insulin

I immediately knew what had to be done and once the shock and realisation had passed that I was a diabetic, I sought advice and hence recommended to join the gym and lose weight.

At that time I was 132kg in weight with a height of 1.9m and I was graded by my doctor as "Obese", so action was needed. With assistance from Mike in knowing what I wanted to achieve I got started on my programme and within 3 months I was down to 122kg and still working hard at meeting my goal of getting down to 110kg, which I felt was achievable. I was at gym 6 days per week, which is now down to 5 compulsory days with other days being optional extra.

Then I asked the question one day of Kevin in regards to, "I think I have maxed out and need to review my programme", which was quickly remedied and within the next few months got down to 1kg of my goal and I can proudly say I have gone from 132kg to 111kg in under 12 months. Kevin's programme at first got me hating the 1 minute time clock, which seems for ever when you pushing weights against the clock, but it worked for the better, so Kevin thanks again and on my review please go easy on me.

The Everyone Active team from Mike, Kevin, Carlos and Martin have been a great help to making sure I keep on track from greeting me on entry, to having a quick 5 min chat while on the treadmill and most importantly making sure that my programme is always meeting my day to day requirements.

I can confirm due to my commitment (Gym & Change in Diet) and help of the Henbury Everyone Active team I have been able to control my diabetes to the extent on my last doctors visits they thought the original results could have been in error and should I maintain this form of control, I will be able to minimise all risk's accosted with being a diabetic - Written in Derek's Own Words

June 2012 - Jenny Budd

I first met Jenny back in 2009 when she was in the middle of rehab from a major illness. Jenny started off coming along to Henbury accompanied by her physiotherapist as part of this process. No matter what, the thing that struck me more than anything else was how positive Jenny was and how willing she was to try to do as much as possible to get back ot health. This has continued and nowadays Jenny attends the centre on a regular basis using both the pool and the gym.
Keeping a note of how each workout is going, there is documented evidence of how much using the centre has helped Jenny to improve her general health and get to the stage she is at today. The latest change to the program has been to add more gentle walking on the treadmill. Despite some of near misses at the early stages Jenny now has it mastered.
