Casual Climbing

As long as you are competent and over 18, you can climb at The Climb as an unsupervised adult. To use the roped climbing walls, on your first visit you will need to complete a quick competency check so we can ensure you’ll be safe. Once you’ve passed this it will be recorded on your registration and you won’t need to do it again providing you keep visiting regularly. Experienced climbers may also be authorised to sign in up to two novice climbers that you can supervise on the wall.

Due to current restrictions in place rope competency checks must be arranged in advance. Please click below to submit your details and we’ll be in touch to schedule one with you.

Bouldering

Our bouldering area is an exceptionally popular part of The Climb. Whether you are new to the sport or are a seasoned hardcore ‘boulderer’ we have our bouldering-only registration option. On your first visit we’ll go through a short bouldering induction and registration with you before you begin.

Due to current restrictions in place bouldering inductions must be arranged in advance. Please click below to submit your details and we’ll be in touch to schedule one with you.

Adult Beginner’s Courses

The Adult Introduction course is the perfect place to start your climbing life and to gain the experience needed to climb unsupervised at our wall. This course takes place over 4 consecutive Wednesday evenings every month (starting from the first Wednesday).

During these training days, you will be taught basic climbing skills such as:

  • Safety rules & good practices for bouldering & roped climbing
  • How to warm up
  • How to wear a harness correctly
  • Belaying on top-rope
  • ‘Tying-in’
  • Basic climbing techniques
  • Catching a fall
  • Lead climbing is not taught during this course

Note: Whilst lots of people we’ll become competent climbers over this 4 week course, attending does not guarantee passing the competency assessment required to climb unsupervised. Some may need more than 4 sessions to get to this level. It goes without saying that our climbers safety is paramount.

The next adult beginner course will run from the first Wednesday of November.

Personal Coaching

Have you reached a plateau in your climbing? Does it seem like the next grade is miles away? Do you know what is holding you back? Are you happy with your grade but feel like your technique could be improved? Do you fear falling off?

Our qualified and very experienced coaches are available to help you improve. One-off ‘masterclass’ style sessions are available but to really see a marked improvement we recommend a booking block of coaching sessions. Be warned, however, you will be getting homework!

Junior Climbing Lessons

Climbing is perfect for children. It boosts confidence, improves agility, tests the mind and is great for improving fitness.

Our children’s courses are the great fun, extremely rewarding and of course very safe.

(NICAS Scheme – National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme)

While they are participating in this club, your child will take part in the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS). NICAS is a UK wide scheme designed to promote climbing development and accredit individual achievement on indoor walls. We offer three levels of the scheme, all of which are designed to cover a huge breadth of climbing skills, knowledge, equipment, and advanced techniques in a fun, nurturing, and progressive manner.

During this course we deliver NICAS levels 1-3 for children aged seven to seventeen, aiming to improve everyone’s knowledge and climbing ability. Registration onto NICAS is mandatory in this class.

NICAS Level 1 is the place to start, providing the opportunity to develop essential skills and techniques. Your child can then work through the  levels of the award at their own pace, whilst receiving first class tuition from our highly experienced team.

Tiny Tots

If your child is aged five to seven, the best way to start climbing is with our junior pre-NICAS sessions – Tiny Tots. These sessions are designed to give a gentle and fun-filled introduction to the world of climbing, instilling safe climbing techniques from the beginning, and ensuring your child learns & demonstrates sufficient understanding of the risks involved whilst having fun & getting active.
