Tennis is a fast-paced sport that requires a combination of many different aspects of fitness, including strength, flexibility, speed, agility, stamina, co-ordination and fast reaction time. This makes it a great, all-round workout that, if played regularly, will help improve your aerobic and anaerobic fitness, speed, strength, power, flexibility, balance, co-ordination and muscle tone.
The average tennis player covers between three and five miles during a match, and will burn up to 600 calories per hour. Players also perform the same movements over and over again, which helps to tone their thighs, bum, stomach and arms.
Centres that have tennis courts may offer junior lessons in the form of mini tennis, adult lessons cardio tennis to help you keep fit or run leagues and tournaments to offer some competition.
