Habits

Your habits impact on the quality of your life!

All of those little things you do throughout the day add up to something big. So, whether you are doing lots of little negative things that all add up to a negative impact, or if you do lots of little positive things that have an empowering impact, you are responsible for being aware of your habits and ensuring you are happy with the consequences.

We all have habits. Those go to thoughts, feelings, behaviours and rituals that we find ourselves doing on a loop subconsciously. We need to wake up to them and take the time to instil some positive habits that are congruent with our values, intentions and purposes in order to make the most of working from home.

Positive Habits at Work

When you work away from home, you develop and fall into habits that support you (hopefully!) to have a positive and proactive day at work. You may need to instil and maintain new positive, purposeful and self-serving habits in your new way of living now that you are working from home. These habits will help you to set the scene for your overall intentions, goals and purposes and help your work day from home be as positive and proactive as possible.

You’re going to need some self-awareness here, some self-honesty and a big dose of self-motivation and self-discipline, but taking the time to identify the ones you need to cull and the habits you need to manifest will help you to have a better overall experience of your working life from home.

So, before you start looking at instilling new habits, take a stock check on your existing ones and ask yourself:

  • Which ones are holding me back?
  • What habits are serving me?

When focussing on instilling new ones, ask yourself:

  • What are my intentions?
  • What do I want my working day to look like?
  • How do I want to feel?
  • What do I want to do?
  • What do I want to achieve?
  • How will I look after my emotional, mental and physical health during the working day?

How do I Maintain Good Habits?

Maintaining good habits is a bit more challenging and will take time to embed into your subconscious. So, write a ‘to do’ list whilst you are embedding these new habits into your working day.

Remember that maintaining habits requires self-discipline and self-motivation. So, ask yourself what life will be like if you do make the effort to invest in your own well-being, and what the consequences will be if you don’t.

Lots of little things add up to make a big difference, so consider how your habits in all parts of your day impact on your overall day.

Think about what you need to and can do on a daily basis to help you to make the most of your day, for example:

  • Night before habits
  • Morning habits
  • Midday habits
  • End of work day rituals

By instilling good habits and rituals of self care, you will be making the most out of your working day, and will help yourself to maintain a positive mind-set and state, which will help you to be the best you before, during and after your working day!
