The First Step Challenge Results

Getting active is all about taking little steps – quite literally in this case – towards reaching your targets. According to some reports, we are living more sedentary lifestyles than ever before, with most of us in sit-down office jobs, that we drive or use public transport to get to and whiling away our evenings in front of the telly, instead of getting out there and keeping moving.

As mornings and evenings get lighter, with winter giving way to Spring (we’re reliably informed it’ll happen eventually, honest) there’s even less excuse not to get out there, taking the dog for two, rather than just one walk a day, or simply just going for an evening stroll. All these things are fantastic for keeping moving and getting your steps up each day.

More than 750 of you entered this challenge using connected devices like Fitbits, JawBones and the Moves App, with the aim of getting your average step count up each day. An impressive 430 of you managing at least 3,000 steps a day, 407 topping 5,000, 347 achieving a minimum of 7,000 a day and 202 of you averaging at more than 10,000 steps per day.

Amazingly, all of the top six entrants managed to average more than 20,000 steps a day – approximately 10 miles – while our winner, Niel B from Grange paddocks Leisure Centre, averaged an incredible 26,754 steps every day, a phenomenal achievement.

We’d like to say thank you to everyone that entered this challenge and we hope you enjoyed pushing yourself and plan to continue trying to keep active throughout the rest of 2018.
