January’s a tough month for many of us. In the aftermath of all the celebrations over the festive period, it can feel a little flat, while our bodies are still trying to come to terms with the industrial quantities of food and drink that we may have forced down ourselves throughout the month of December.
That’s why it’s so important to get out there and get active. Not only will it help to shift those few extra festive pounds that may be making your work trousers a little tighter than you initially anticipated, but exercise is also great for lifting your mood, flooding your system with endorphins.
In search of both these benefits were over 300 intrepid members trying to complete the January Marathon Milestones challenge, each of whom laced their running shoes trying to rack up a marathon’s worth – all 26.2 miles of it – of running before the end of January.
An impressive 64 of the 300 entrants completed the challenge managed the full marathon distance, with 31 managing more than two and 11 people completing a huge triple marathon. However, our winner – Mark B from Hornchurch Sports Centre – managed a gobsmacking 173.36 miles in January, which equates to more than 6.5 marathons. An incredible effort.
We’d like to say thank you to everyone that entered this challenge and we hope you enjoyed pushing yourself and plan to continue running throughout 2018. If you’d like to try a different challenge, head here to check out all the new challenges that are open now, along with all the new ones that will be appearing throughout the year.
