Previously run by Cotswold District Council, Cotswold Leisure Sports Development has been in existence since 1996.
In that time, many initiatives and programmes have been introduced in a bid to raise the profile of sport and increase participation figures in the local area. With constant changes to central and local government priorities, changes to local strategies and major changes to government funding streams, Cotswold Leisure Sports Development has continually adapted to the needs and requirements of the local area.
Working closely with Sport England, Youth Sports Trust, County Sports partnerships and local partners to deliver schemes such as Active Sport, Champion Coaching, Youth Games, Millennium Games, TOPS programme and an extensive school holiday coaching programme we have provided the opportunity for thousands of local children and young people to participate in sport.
Now part of Everyone Active, Cotswold Leisure Sports Development is committed to continuing to provide such opportunities by working with schools, sports clubs, facility providers and governing bodies of sport to develop sporting opportunities for local people.

What sports will the children play?
No two coaching days are ever the same, we deliver different sports everyday to keep the children guessing and introduce them to new sports and new challenges. The sports your child could play may include; Cricket, Football, Hockey, Gymnastics, Tag-Rugby, Handball, Netball, Athletics, Tag-Rugby, Uni-Hoc, Tennis, Rounders, Dodgeball, Tri-Golf, Lacrosse, Basketball, Volleyball, Boxing, Boccia, Goalball, Martial Arts, Blind Football, Danish Long Ball, Tchouckball, Seated Volleyball, Dance and many adapted games straight from our coaches imaginations!
Will my child need a packed lunch?
Yes – please send your child with a packed lunch and plenty to drink (preferably in a bottle we can re-fill). Please make us aware if your child has any food allergies.
Will my child need to bring any specific equipment?
No – We will provide all the equipment needed to play each sport.
Can my child bring their own equipment?
Yes – your child is welcome to bring their own equipment ie: a tennis racket, hockey stick or cricket bat but we cannot be responsible for any breakages of equipment whilst in use. Also, please make sure it is well labelled as we may ask to store it safely when it’s not in use and return it at the end of the day.
How many children usually attend?
We can have anything from 30 to 80 children attend each day.
How are the children divided into groups?
By age – children aged 5 to 6 years old will be part of a group playing basic multi-skilled fun games based on running, tagging, throwing and catching with an emphasis on fun, participation and enjoyment. Children aged 7+ will be coached sports within a group of 12 to 16 children of a similar age. The group will receive coaching on one sport for an hour before moving onto a different sport for the next hour. Therefore, each group will receive coaching in four sports and work with four different coaches in one day.
My child is very shy, will the coaching days be suitable for him/her?
Yes – we want to give every child a positive experience of sport and are fully aware that some children lack confidence or may not be comfortable with making new friends straight away. Our coaches are experts at spotting those children who need some extra help and need some extra re-assurance and will work closely you’re your child to make them feel at home. We are confident by the end of the day your child will have made new friends, had a great time and will be dying to come back soon.
What happens if my child misbehaves?
Swearing, bullying, teasing or physical violence to persons or property will not be tolerated and will result in expulsion from Sports Club. General misbehaviour of any type will fed back to parents/carers at the end of each day by the head coach.
Can I pay with childcare vouchers?
Not at present – in order for you to do so we would need to be Ofsted registered. As we are only providing sports coaching provisions we do not need to be Ofsted registered at this time.
Are all your coaches qualified and DBS checked?
Yes – Every one of our coaches, and those that we contract in on special occasions, has at least an NGB level 1 coaching qualification, a current first aid certificate, a current safe guarding qualification and has been subject to an enhanced DBS check (DBS is the replacement of the CRB check)
Can we just turn up on the day?
Although we would do our upmost to accommodate your child if you did turn up on the day, we would prefer you to pre-book. We have a maximum attendance at each site and if we have reached that number we would unfortunately have to turn you away upon arrival.
