BMX brothers cycling to success thanks to Everyone Active

Brothers Sam and Oli are chasing their BMX dreams thanks to sponsorship from their local Everyone Active centre. Fareham Leisure Centre, which is operated by Everyone Active on behalf of Fareham Borough Council, are supporting the youngsters with their training and kit.

Sam, aged 11 and Oli, aged 14, from Fareham, starting BMX racing in September 2014 and are already doing well, racing at regional and national events almost every weekend. They took 1st and 3rd in their last race series, ending the season 14th in the South Region, and are now setting their sights high for the future.

“We went on holiday to Cornwall a couple of years ago and visited a bike track where the boys fell in love with the sport,” says mum Paula Wright. “BMX racing has really grown in popularity since its arrival into the Olympic games, and Sam and Oli’s dream is to compete at the world championships, so I am hugely grateful to Everyone Active for helping them along the way.”

Fareham Leisure Centre has sponsored the juniors £500 towards their competitions and provided six weeks of personal training sessions with Everyone Active Personal Trainer Dan Jackson, as well as a complimentary Everyone Active membership.

Sam and Oli now visit the centre twice a week, following the tailored gym programme created by Dan. The brothers work on strength building exercises, and also practise sprint intervals on the exercise bikes to build the fast-twitch muscle fibres needed for the speed and intensity of a BMX race.

“The boys are so proud to be sponsored by Everyone Active, and work really hard with their training,” says Paula. “They are lucky to be able to train at a place with fantastic facilities and friendly staff. They love their gym sessions, and are really passionate about biking and being active. Even when they are not at a race track on their BMX they are often found doing other disciplines of biking.”

After their focused training Sam and Oli are feeling stronger and more confident than ever. Their friendly sibling rivalry helps to support, encourage and motivate each other, and the brothers can’t wait to put on their Everyone Active branded jerseys for the next event.

“We are happy to be sponsoring Sam and Oli with their competitions and training,” says Everyone Active General Manager Ryan Grant. “We can see how driven they are, and the progress and results they have achieved so far are outstanding. Everyone Active is delighted to be able to assist them on their journey, and we wish them all the luck with their upcoming races.”
