Bracknell Leisure Centre launches pilot programme for those with Parkinson’s disease

Bracknell Leisure Centre has partnered up with Parkinson’s UK in Bracknell to offer a 12-week hydrotherapy project for those living with the condition.

Bracknell Leisure Centre, managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Bracknell Forest Council, received funding from the charity to offer the unique course. The weekly sessions, which start from Tuesday 6 September, include 50 minutes of therapist led water-based exercise.

Courses will be free to participants. To take part in the programme, participants have to be members of the Bracknell and District Branch of Parkinson’s UK*.

“People with Parkinson’s benefit greatly from any form of exercise. However, Hydrotherapy targets balance-specific impairments associated with the condition. The buoyancy effects of water also increase muscle activation.

“We’re delighted to be able to team up with the charity to deliver these sessions. I’d urge anyone interested to get in touch and register their interest now.”

Carly Pearson, Active Communities Manager.
