Children make a splash alongside Olympic Stars

More than 170 children from across Whitby and Scarborough were given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join Team GB swimmers, Vicki Lucass and Grant Turner at Everyone Active’s leisure centres on Sunday 13 May.

Everyone Active and Scarborough Borough Council invited local children to take part in an ‘Oceans of Fun’ event, where youngsters from across the borough joined the international swimmers at Whitby Leisure Centre in the morning and Scarborough Sports Village in the afternoon.

Aspiring swim stars took to the water to take part in a whole host of aquatic activities, including fast swimming and water polo led by the Olympians.

“I got to swim against Vicki and I beat her at swimming 25m! She taught me how to swim better and I think this helped me to win”.

“The oceans of fun day was great. I got to try new sports and things like rookies, syncro swimming and even water polo. I loved doing the water polo and the swimming teachers were so nice and really helped me”.

“As the UK’s longest established leisure operator we are dedicated to providing opportunities for the local community to take part in physical activity. We are delighted that more than 170 children from across the borough joined us for the Oceans of Fun event, and hope that they will enjoy swimming for many years to come.”

Jon Bird, general manager at Everyone Active’s Whitby Leisure Centre

“When exercise is enjoyable, children are more likely to want to take part in it. These types of events are excellent opportunities to discover how much fun swimming and other forms of water based activities can be and they help to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to young people in our borough.”
