Clevedon Town 65+ Walking Football Team won the WFA 65+ National Cup at the Cirencester Arena after taking on some of the best teams from up and down the country.
In the finals, the team took on the challenge from opposition from Manchester, Newcastle, Worthing, Norwich and Birmingham. They reached the final after their last round-robin match resulted in a 1-0 victory after Peter Parfrey scored.
In the final, they took on Manchester Corinthians, a match that proved to be close to call until the final two minutes when Lewis Ford broke free and fired home to give Clevedon a 1-0 victory.
”I think our victory surprised the other teams but we weren’t phased by having to compete against the larger and more selective clubs and thoroughly deserved our win. I’m extremely proud of my managers and squad who worked hard to prepare for the finals.”
Sam Hibbs, Team CEO
”The squad and support team worked hard to win this, the planning, preparation and training all paid off on the day. Everyone in the club is over the moon with the result ”.
Pete Condon, Team manager
