A new coaching qualification will soon be helping more children across the country to participate in gymnastics.
Everyone Active and Max Whitlock Gymnastics can now deliver the new Active IQ Level 2 in Gymnastics award after it received approval from Ofqual on the Regulated Qualifications Framework.
The nationally-recognised qualification will ensure thousands more young people can participate in the sport by upskilling Everyone Active’s instructors to deliver high-quality gymnastics coaching. Doing this will help the two organisations to achieve their pledge of engaging one million children in gymnastics by 2022.
All coaches who pass the assessments will receive a formal Level 2 Award in Max Whitlock Gymnastics certification. Everyone Active and Max Whitlock Gymnastics have worked in partnership with the leading awarding organisation, Active IQ, to develop the qualification and devised robust assessments that ensure coaches are able to deliver sessions of the highest standard.
The course educates participants about the design and delivery of gymnastics sessions, instructs them on how to progress young people through different stages and educates them in rigorous health and safety standards. It is delivered exclusively through the partnership between Everyone Active and Max Whitlock Gymnastics.
“This qualification will make a real difference to our ability to get more children active. Working with Max Whitlock Gymnastics, we identified that a lack of qualified coaches was preventing more young people accessing the sport. The Active IQ Level 2 Award in Max Whitlock Gymnastics will support us to overcome this by ensuring we have the right people in place to cater for the growing demand in gymnastics. The course will see our coaches learn specific skills and behaviours that will help them to ignite a love of the sport in young people from an early age.”
Max, who is currently training for a number of upcoming competitions, has been heavily involved in the design of the programme and its accompanying qualification. With the support of his elite coach wife, Leah, he has worked with Everyone Active and Active IQ to ensure both coaches and students benefit from his world-renowned expertise.
“I am delighted to have teamed up with Everyone Active to ensure that more young people are given the opportunity to enjoy gymnastics. It’s extremely exciting to have developed this qualification, and I’m looking forward to seeing the difference it makes to young people’s engagement in the sport. I know first-hand that Everyone Active offers brilliant facilities all over the country, and now we are able to get more young people making the most of them through the delivery of Max Whitlock Gymnastics sessions.”
The first training session will start in April. Everyone Active colleagues will be joined by elite coach, Matthew Jackson, who has worked alongside Max and many other high-level British gymnastics during his career. Matthew will be helping to develop the coaches and teach the skills and techniques needed to deliver the programme.
“Everyone Active and Max have ambitious plans to ensure that more young people are involved in the sport of gymnastics. We are thrilled to be working with them and Max to ensure their coaches are trained to the highest standard. We know that many children become disengaged from physical activity as they get older but also know a good coach right from the start can truly make all the difference. Gymnastics is enjoying a great profile in the UK currently and there is certainly an appetite for leisure centres to offer bespoke courses to engage youngsters in the sport.”
Max Whitlock Gymnastics delivers structured sessions that give children the chance to develop and perfect their skills as they progress. They have the opportunity to try their hand on a number of apparatus and take part in fun and exciting activities. The programme has launched in a number of Everyone Active sites across the country.
