Westcroft Leisure Centre, David Weir Leisure Centre, Cheam Leisure Centre and The Phoenix Centre, operated by Everyone Active in partnership with Sutton London Borough Council, will be inspiring the community to take part in a month long activity charity campaign launching on the most active day of the year – UK Active’s National Fitness Day on 9th September.
As part of the initiative, Everyone Active will be running nationwide activity challenges at all their centres around the country for members, guests and colleagues. Participants will be encouraged to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Trust, a charity that matches individuals willing to donate their blood stem cells or bone marrow to people who desperately need lifesaving transplants.
Each week there will be a different activity focus, for example, fitness, swim or group exercise, and all of the money raised will go towards the Anthony Nolan Trust. The initiative will continue until 11th October, coinciding with National Blood Cancer Awareness Month, which also runs in September.
On 9th September, the local community will have the chance to participate in an activity challenge. Held indoors at the gym and running throughout the day and through until 16th September, participants will be challenged to cycle, run and row at least 1km on each activity – 1km on a bike, 1km on a treadmill and 1km on a rowing machine. In addition, members and guests will also be challenged to swim the most amount of lengths in 30 minutes. Each participant will be entered into a prize draw to win three months free membership. Anyone taking part in these challenges are asked to donate £1 to the Anthony Nolan Trust.
Many other fundraising activities will also take place at each centre throughout the month, including a series of children’s activities and group exercise sessions.*
Everyone Active has already encouraged more than 700 people to become a donor for Anthony Nolan and has raised over £30,000 for the charity through its previous work. Continuing its pledge to raise funds, Everyone Active will be combining the most active day of the year with the launch of its Anthony Nolan Awareness Month.
“The Anthony Nolan Trust is a charity very close to our hearts here in Sutton,” says Mark Basker Everyone Active Contract Manager. “We are going to do everything we can to raise as much money as possible for those suffering from blood disease and their families and raise awareness for Anthony Nolan. National Fitness Day is a perfect opportunity to get everyone involved in trying out a new activity and to launch our awareness month for the charity – what better way to get active than by doing so for a good cause? We are offering a variety of activities for people of all ages and abilities throughout the day and the ensuing month and we really hope to inspire the local community to get involved in our fundraising efforts.”
For every member that joins from 9th September to 11th October Everyone Active will also donate £1 to the Anthony Nolan Trust.
