Leisure centre crowns Saltburn’s most inspirational woman for ‘our girls can’ campaign

Saltburn Leisure Centre names Clare Hewitt as Saltburns’s most inspirational woman, following the successful launch of its ‘Our Girls Can’ campaign.
Everyone Active – the sports and leisure operator, which manages the facility – launched the social media competition to celebrate inspiring women across the UK getting active and achieving their goals.

Clare, 26, who is an instructor at the centre, was nominated by several of its members for inspiring many newcomers to try something new and take part in Zumba.
Alison Whitehead, a member at the centre, commented: “Clare practices what she preaches and then some! She made a point of welcoming me to my first Zumba class, which was great as I’d just moved to the area. Clare motivates people to do their best and helps them to achieve their goals. Go Clare!”
‘Our Girls Can’ was launched by Everyone Active on International Women’s Day in March, inviting people to nominate women, including any friends, family or workmates, of any age and ability that have inspired them to take on a new active challenge. The competition finished on the 8th April and proved a huge success, with multiple nominations made on the operator’s social media pages across the UK.

After being chosen, Clare was given a month’s free membership by the centre and will now be entered into a national draw, for a chance to win £500 towards a well-deserved holiday.
Kevan Murray, Everyone Active’s general manager at Saltburn Leisure Centre, said: It was great to see so many people nominate Clare for the competition and show their appreciation for her work here at the centre. Clare’s story is a fantastic example of what this competition is about – celebrating real women that have motivated and encouraged others to be active.”
Each winner from Everyone Active’s 102 centres across the UK will now go head-to-head in a battle to be named the national winner of the competition. The overall winner is due to be announced later this month.

Kevan continued: “We received some fantastic nominations through the Our Girls Can campaign and we’re pleased that so many people got involved and helped to celebrate all of the strong and empowering women we have here in Saltburn. We’ll certainly be rooting for Clare in the national draw and would like to wish her the best of luck from everyone here at Saltburn leisure centre.

The competition was held in support of Sport England’s This Girl Can campaign, which was launched earlier this year to celebrate active women everywhere.
