Leisure operator goes the distance for charity

Over £10,000 raised!

58 people from across the country, put on their running shoes, tied up their laces and set off at 6am to walk 26 miles around Rutland Water all in aid of charity.

On World Mental Health Day (Tuesday 10th October) Everyone Active colleagues from across the East region joined forces to walk and run a marathon to raise money and awareness for mental health charity, Mind.

World Mental Health Day encourages people across the globe to talk openly about mental health. In June this year, leisure operator, Everyone Active partnered with Mind to ensure that no one has to face mental health problem alone and the pledged to raise £100,000 for the charity.

Physical activity is proven to benefit mental wellbeing in a number of ways, including easing feelings of stress and reducing the risk of depression. The partnership between Everyone Active and Mind will encourage more people to engage with physical activity and feel these benefits.

Paul Dowling, Everyone Active’s Regional Director said:

“I am delighted that colleagues from Sunderland to Mid Suffolk joined together to walk over 26 miles to raise over £10,000 for Mind. The work that the team at Mind carry out is inspirational and we want to help awareness of mental health problems.

Physical activity has a number of proven benefits to our mental health, and we offer support for local people in the communities we operate in, to ensure that no one has to face these issues alone. I would urge anyone who is looking for guidance to visit our centres’ to find out how we can support them.”
