People in Fleet are being encouraged to get active in 2018 by signing up to take part in one of the town’s biggest sporting events.
Registration is now open for the 2018 Fleet Sprint Triathlon, which will take place on Monday 7th May.
More than 450 participants turned out last year to swim, cycle and sprint their way to the finish line. This year, event hosts Everyone Active and Hart District Council are aiming to make the event even bigger. They have formed a new partnership with headline sponsor, Optimum Performance Sports Injury Clinic, who will be offering discount recovery treatments to competitors on the day.
The triathlon will once again kick off at the new Hart Leisure Centre, where competitors will take to the pool to swim 400m. This will be followed by a 20km bike ride around the district and a 5km run.
Anyone over the age of 16 is being encouraged to get involved, with Everyone Active offering discounted swim sessions for participants. As of the Thursday 1 March, those who have signed up can access the pool at Hart Leisure Centre from 8pm – 9pm every Wednesday at a reduced rate.
It will be the 23rd annual Sprint Triathlon to be held in Fleet. For the second time, the event will also form part of the Everyone Active’s South East Triathlon Championship alongside races at its leisure centres in Fareham, Chichester and Petersfield. The series has been created to encourage participants of all ages and abilities to participate in multisport events, and caters for first-time competitors through to semi-professional athletes.
“I am delighted that Hart Leisure Centre will be once again playing host to this fantastic sporting event. Everyone Active’s South East Triathlon Championship aims to provide something for everyone, from experienced athletes to first-time competitors. Although they can be challenging, triathlons are also a lot of fun – which is really what this event is all about.”
