The brand new 30-station gym opened at Plympton Swimming Pool on Monday 19th December.
Sports and leisure operator, Everyone Active, which manages the swimming pool on behalf of Plymouth City Council, has invested over £200k to provide the new facility, which uses a modular building and is planned to be in place for an initial period of five years.
The facility will have all the amenities of a high quality gym, including full air-conditioning, television screens, a sound system and a wide range of Technogym equipment.
David Greenwood, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “This is the first time Plympton Swimming Pool will offer a gym and we’re very excited to see it open.
“The new gym looks fantastic and we’re confident it’ll go a long way to encouraging more people to get active in different ways.”
The popular centre also offers a 25 metre community swimming pool, which provides award-winning ASA swimming lessons. Over 1,200 children are currently registered on the lessons. The new gym will be open alongside the swimming pool from 7am until 10pm Monday to Friday and from 8am until 5pm at the weekend. Memberships incorporating access to both the gym and the pool are available.
Councillor Glenn Jordan, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, said: “Anything that makes it easier for people to stay fit and active has to be a good thing and I’m sure local residents will welcome this great new facility.”
