Scarborough Sports Village celebrates one year since its door opened

People from across the borough have visited the new Scarborough Sports Village almost half a million times over the last year, in a bid to become more active.

Scarborough Sports Village, which is managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Scarborough Borough Council, is celebrating one year since opening its door to the local community for the first time on 5 June 2017.

The local community is feeling the benefits of increased physical activity by partaking in the wide-range of activities available at the centre.

“Having been a member for a number of years at the original sports centre, it was sad to leave the old site after lots of good memories when attending the gym there. However since moving over to the new Sports Village, with all its fantastic facilities and easy access, I’ve continued to keep fit along with people of all ages and abilities!”

Eddie Jeffre, long-time member of the previous Scarborough Sports Centre

Scarborough Borough Council invested £15million into the Sports Village. Its vast range of state-of-the-art facilities include a 25-metre, eight lane Olympic Legacy swimming pool, a four-court sports hall, a multi-activity room, 60-station fitness suite and a community football stadium with 3G pitch, on which Scarborough Athletic Football Club recently played their way to promotion.

“We are delighted that we are celebrating one year since opening this fantastic facility to the public. It is truly inspiring that the local community has visited the centre around half a million times in a bid improve their health and wellbeing. It is our goal to encourage the local community to improve their health and wellbeing and I would encourage anyone looking to lead a more active lifestyle to visit the Sports Village and speak to colleagues to see how we can support them on their fitness journey.”

Martin Russell, Everyone Active’s Area Contract Fitness Manager

“It’s been fantastic to see the Sports Village become a thriving community facility during the last twelve months, well used by people of all ages, including both new and established sports and community groups, clubs and teams. “We will continue to work with Everyone Active to promote active lifestyles and I would encourage anyone that hasn’t yet visited the Sports Village to go along and try out the many superb facilities it has to offer.”
