More than 100 people from across the country were joined by Olympic and Commonwealth medallists for the second Everyone Active’s Sporting Champions mentoring session.
Athletes from grass-root level to world-class professionals attended the event at Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre on Wednesday 9th May along with scheme ambassador, Colin Jackson and gold level athletes Max Whitlock and Jade Jones.
During the mentoring day athletes heard from expert nutritionist Chris McLeod and Dr Josie Perry who delivered a session on mental wellbeing. Those attending also heard from Olympic Gold Gymnastics Medallist Max Whitlock, who shared insights from his own sporting career and journey to Rio and offered advice to athletes.
“I am delighted that I was able to host Everyone Active’s Sporting Champions scheme mentoring session at Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre, for athletes from across the Country. It was truly inspiring to speak to athletes of all ages and sports about their experiences, and I hope that the event provided them with a whole-host of skills that will help guide them through their sporting careers.”
“The event was a great experience. I learnt a lot about how to manage my diet effectively and the mental pressures that come with being an elite athlete. To hear from both Colin and Max was just fantastic, I really enjoyed speaking to other athletes about their sporting experiences, which has inspired me to aim even higher. I really can’t wait for the next mentoring session.”
The scheme helps athletes to achieve national and international sporting success by offering them gold, silver or bronze tiers of sponsorship. These packages provide them with funding of up to £5k to help towards training, equipment, travel and competition costs, as well as access to over 160 of Everyone Active’s leisure centres nationwide.
“We are dedicated to offering support for sporting talent in the areas we operate in. We were absolutely delighted to have Colin join us for our second mentoring session. We are passionate about delivering top-quality training facilities nationwide, and we are thrilled that we are able to provide over 700 athletes with access to our centres through the Sporting Champions scheme. Our aim was to support 500 athletes by the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics and to have achieved this two years early is just fantastic.”
Now going into its fourth year, Everyone Active’s Sporting Champions invested more than £500k into helping over 700 athletes to achieve success.
