Sports partnerships to benefit the community

Everyone Active has teamed up with Olympic gold medal-winner, Alex Danson, to introduce an innovative hockey programme in local schools and at its centres.

The Alex Danson Hockey Academy aims to give more children the chance to get active by offering them access to fun, engaging training sessions led by expert coaches.

The hockey super star, who won gold at Rio 2016 as part of Team GB’s women’s team, recently visited Everyone Active’s Watford Woodside Leisure Centre to joined more than 300 school children for a day of hockey fun.

“I had a fantastic day in Watford. These children could be our future Olympians, and it was great to see how much they enjoyed getting active. “I am delighted to have teamed up with Everyone Active to give more young people the opportunity to play hockey. Research shows the importance of engaging children in physical activity before the age of 11 to increase their chances of staying active into later life. The Academy is designed to do this, and I hope this event inspired the children to keep playing and give more sports a try.”

Children in Hemel Hempstead and the surrounding areas will soon be benefitting from The Alex Danson Hockey Academy the sports and leisure provider introduces it to the borough after 1st April. It has been designed by Alex and will be delivered by Everyone Active’s skilled coaches.

They will also be benefitting from Everyone Active’s partnership with super league netball team, benecos Mavericks.

Statistics show that two million fewer women than men regularly play sport. Everyone Active and the Mavericks want to bridge this gap by encouraging more women in the UK to pick up a netball and join the 20 million people worldwide who already benefit from playing the sport.

Most girls in England are not introduced to netball in school until the ages of 10-11. Through the partnership, Everyone Active and the Mavericks want to engage girls at a younger age in the sport, with the hope they will continuing playing throughout their lives.

The programme will be delivered in schools and inside Everyone Active’s centres. To find out more about either programme, click below:
