Weight vanishes for children’s entertainer

Colleagues at Everyone Active’s Bedworth Leisure Centre have helped 41-year-old Shane West to improve his health and wellbeing by getting active.

Shane, a children’s entertainer from Bedworth, joined his local leisure centre in November last year after seeing a photograph of him performing on stage. Shocked by what he saw Shane decided it was time to make a change.

Weighing just shy of 19 stone, Shane did little exercise and his diet mainly consisted of processed and take-away foods. Inspired to improve his health and wellbeing, Shane visited Bedworth Leisure Centre, which is operated by Everyone Active in partnership with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

“I was saying for months that I needed to do something about my weight but my heart wasn’t in it. When I saw a picture of me performing, it really hit home that I had to change my lifestyle. At the beginning of the session Kyle asked me what my goals were and took me through a series of exercises and gave me some great nutritional advice, which has really helped me focus and the results which followed really gave me the drive to continue. My first session, as you can imagine, was physically exhausting but I didn’t let this put me off and continued to do around 45 minutes of exercise, doing a mix of cardio and strength training. After a few months of eating a well-balanced diet and visiting the centre up to four times a week, I really began to notice a difference and my new routine soon become a way of life. Now that I have lost more than four and half stone, I have become so much more confident when performing on stage and I can deliver a 45-minute show without getting short of breath. I also have a lot more energy to take part in activities with my two children and we spend more quality time together as a family.”

Shane West,

The centre offers a vast range of activities to support everyone on their journey to becoming more active, more often. Not sure where to begin, Shane booked himself in for a session with Everyone Active’s fitness instructor, Kyle Gore.

Everyone Active’s qualified colleagues are on hand to offer support and advice for members to help them achieve their goals.

“We are extremely proud of what Shane has achieved and we are delighted that he has achieved his target. Our goal is to encourage the local community to become more active and lead a healthier lifestyle. I would encourage anyone who is looking to improve their health and wellbeing to visit the centre and speak with colleagues to find out more about the ways we can help them.”
