On the weekend of the 12th– 13th September David Weir Leisure Centre, operated by Everyone Active in partnership with Sutton Council, hosted the Surrey Track & Field Championship. The event included the Surrey County Championships for Combined Events, Steeplechases, Track Walks and Track Relays, using the excellent David Weir outdoor facilities.
Competitor Diana Norman set a new world record in the V40 Pentathlon event, which included competing in 80 metre hurdle, shot put, high jump, long jump and 800 metre run. Diana achieved a total of 4249 points, beating the previous record of 3960. Diana and the other athletes were cheered on by hundreds of spectator, creating a fantastic atmosphere in the arena.
“The Everyone Active Operations Team at David Weir took great pride is hosting this event and hope that it promotes athletics to a wide range of age groups in the community” says Everyone Active General Manger Katie McKeown. “We would like to congratulate World Record holder Diana and all the other athletes and are very much looking forward to hosting the indoor championship– on the 20th and 21st February.”
