Sports and leisure operator, Everyone Active has teamed up with a local Nordic Walking club to introduce the sport to the borough.
Colleagues at Everyone Active’s Melton Sports Village have partnered with Leicestershire Nordic Walking club to offer free sessions on Wednesday (6th September) in a bid to encourage the local community to be more active.
The sessions will take start at Melton Sports Village from 12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm and will be led by Nordic Walking instructor, Penny Fielden. Following this, local people can take part in regular ‘Learn to Nordic Walk’ sessions at Melton Sports Village, which will take place every Wednesday afternoon.
Penny Fielden, a Nordic Walking UK instructor said: “We are passionate about encouraging more people to become active, and Nordic walking is a fantastic way to improve your fitness. It is easy to learn and provides a great opportunity to meet new people, while working out.”
Nordic walking provides many physical benefits such as improving heart and lung health and can burn up to 46% more calories than regular walking. Using poles reduces pressures on the knees and joints, making the sport accessible to everyone in the community.
Matthew Hopkin, contract manager for Everyone Active said: “As the longest established leisure operator, we are committed to providing a wide-range of physical activities to encourage the borough to lead healthier, more active lifestyles.
“The free sessions offer a fantastic opportunity for everyone, regardless of their age or ability, to get active in a fun and sociable way. I would encourage anyone who is looking to improve their health and wellbeing to come along and try something new.”
