As part of a new 15-year deal between West Lindsey District Council and Everyone Active, West Lindsey Leisure Centre will be significantly redeveloped and extended to introduce an all-new health and wellbeing hub, which will include a huge range of activities and equipment on offer.
Built as part of a £1.4 million investment from the council, the revamped centre and brand-new health and wellbeing hub will include a Fitness and Toning Hub, an Active Communities Hub and an Active Senior Hub for over-50s.
The all-new Fitness and Toning Hub is a state-of-the-art 100 station gym and fitness hub that includes all the equipment you could possibly need, including cardio vascular machines, resistance machines, a large free weights area and even an indoor running track. Meanwhile, the Active Communities Hub will include consultation rooms and a group exercise area, along with a dedicated Activities Communities Manager and a health team to help people in the local community get the most out of the facility. The Active Senior Hub is aimed at people in the community aged 50-plus and incorporates two dedicated short-mat bowls pitches, a social area, a fitness area, a group exercise studio and a changing village.
Cllr Sheila Bibb, Chairman of the Prosperous Communities Committee commented: “I am really looking forward to seeing work start on this exciting new initiative. Health and wellbeing is something I am very passionate about and I am thrilled to be part of this exciting project.
“Our new arrangement with Everyone Active will help to not only improve the current quality of leisure provision but we will be able to reach even more people across our district.
“It is vital that people do get more active if they are to lead healthier lifestyles and I firmly believe this investment really is going to make it more accessible for people for all ages and abilities.”
The redevelopment works are anticipated to begin on 4 June, with the new facilities expected to open to the public in September.
Kerry O’Neill, Contract Manager at Everyone Active, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with West Lindsey District Council to offer additional facilities at West Lindsey Leisure Centre.
“As the UK’s longest established leisure operator, we are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of local residents, and the new facilities will offer a fantastic opportunity to people of all ages and abilities to take part in physical activity in a bid to becoming more active, more often.”
