Olympic stars Rebecca Adlington and Steve Parry joined 145 local children to make a splash on Saturday (7th October) and celebrate the reopening of two local leisure centres.
Everyone Active and Warwick District Council hosted Total Swimming events at Newbold Comyn and St Nicholas Park Leisure Centres to officially celebrate the much-anticipated reopening of phase one of the refurbished facilities.
Children from across the District jumped into the pools to join a host of Olympic stars and try out a number of water-based activities, including water polo, synchronised and fast swimming.
Guests of the event were welcomed by Chairman of Warwick District Council, Cllr Boad, and Portfolio Holder for Culture, Cllr Coker, who officially re-opened both centres alongside Regional Director at Everyone Active, Jon Senior.
Councillor Coker commented: “What a wonderful day. The Council and Everyone Active have both worked hard to get this first phase complete at both centres, along with our contractor Speller Metcalfe and our project managers Mace. Today showed that it was all worthwhile – to see the young people enjoying themselves so much and watching the Olympic stars encouraging local youngsters to enjoy their swimming proved that the Council was right to have invested substantial sums into these two facilities.”
Jon Senior, Regional Director at Everyone Active, said: “It was an honour to welcome Rebecca Adlington and Steve Parry to join us in opening the first phase of the Newbold Comyn and St Nicholas Park Leisure Centres.
“We are very proud of the refurbished centres and the fantastic facilities that are now available to the local community. We look forward to encouraging even more people to become more active, more often when we open the final phase of the centres next spring.”
The second phase of the refurbishment works at Newbold Comyn and St Nicholas Park Leisure Centres is due to open in spring 2018.
