Hundreds of kids set to take on 17-mile swim challenge for Dementia UK

Nearly 900 children are set to join forces in aid of Dementia UK, by swimming the distance between Pickering and Malton – and back.

Each youngster will swim a portion of the epic 17.3-mile challenge at Ryedale Swim and Fitness Centre in Pickering or Derwent Swim and Fitness Centre in Malton, sites run by award-winning operator Everyone Active on behalf of Ryedale District Council.

All funds raised from the sponsored event will go to Dementia UK, which is Everyone Active’s charity partner.

Some 395 youngsters will swim at the Ryedale centre and 483 at the Derwent centre, with each receiving a certificate for taking part in the fundraiser, as well as a distance certificate.

All swimmers on swim schemes and lessons at either site are eligible to take part in the event, which is due to take place from Monday, September 26 to Sunday, October 2.

“We’re really proud of all the young swimmers at these two centres who are taking on this mammoth challenge. I know they will do their communities proud and, hopefully, we will raise lots of money for a great cause in Dementia UK”

Jon Bird, Everyone Active’s general manager,

Donations are also being accepted by card in-centre.
