Half Term Family Swimming

If half term has crept up on you a bit quickly and you’re struggling to find things to do with the family, check out our top reasons to head to the pool this half term holiday.

Gets the Kids Away From Screens This Half Term

With tablets, phones, games consoles, T.V. and so much more, it can be hard to tear the kids away from one screen or another. Swimming is a great alternative to all of these. You can lock the digital devices away and spend some quality time together as a family this half term without any distractions. Play some games or have some races, it’s great fun for everyone and has loads of physical and mental health benefits too.

Swimming Can Help Make Your Family Cleverer

Studies have shown that children who swim regularly reach many physical developmental milestones earlier. Meanwhile, they also have improved visual and motor skills, as well as doing better at maths. This means they’ll do even better once they return to school after half term.

It’ll Keep you Healthy

This is not strictly linked to swimming, but exercise – of which swimming is a brilliant example – as a whole helps to strengthen your immune system, giving it boost each time you exercise, resulting in fewer colds and illnesses this winter.

Furthermore, a recent study has indicated that swimming pool water can help reduce the infectivity of the Covid-19 virus by up to 1000 times within 30 seconds.

Swimming Makes You Happy

Along with other forms of exercise, swimming releases feel-good chemicals called endorphins that lift your mood and make you feel fantastic. Swimming can also help relieve tension and stress, as well as being a meditative exercise. It can help you relax and give your brain an escape from the pressures and chaos of family life this half term.

Perfect, Whatever the Weather

The best thing about swimming is that it’s a family activity that isn’t dependant on the weather – perfect for a British school holiday! Both the water and the pool building itself are kept nice and warm all the year round, so you can even pretend you’re abroad on holiday, whatever the weather’s doing outside!

It’s Great fun

Whenever you go swimming, whether it’s at half term, over the weekend or in the evening it’s always fantastic fun. Whenever you go to the pool with your family, you’re sure to have a superb time, as well as being great value and, as we’ve mentioned before, it’s non-weather-dependant as well. Find your local Everyone Active pool right here.
