Green Travel

As we all know, times are tough for everyone right now. Whether that’s food prices, mortgage or rent costs, the fuel you put in your car or how much it costs to heat and power your home – everyone’s feeling the pinch.

What is ‘Everyone is Reducing Carbon’?

We here at Everyone Active are launching our ‘Everyone is Reducing Carbon’ Campaign. We’re sharing what we’re doing to reduce the significant running costs and environmental impact that one of our leisure centres has, and how you can help. There are different focuses: saving energy; saving water; recycling and promoting green transport to and from our centres.

Alongside highlighting what we’ll be doing as company, we’ll be demonstrating what you can do to help us out and how this can all translate towards helping reduce your running costs and carbon emissions at home.

Green Travel

We will be sharing with you exactly what we’re doing to help save energy, reduce water consumption, recycling more waste and to improve our green travel credentials. We’ll also be asking you to help us out along the way – pointing out where we can improve and if there’s anything we’re not doing.

We’ve put an increased effort into making it easier for both you, our members, and our colleagues to travel to our centres by greener, cheaper and more sustainable methods of transport. Did you know, for example, that by cycling to your centre, rather than driving, you could save up to £500 a year?

What are we doing?

In order to reduce both our members’ and our colleagues’ travelling emissions and costs, we’ve implemented a few initiatives to help make getting to our centres via more sustainable modes of transport even easier.

  • Bike racks at centres

Many centres now have bike racks to give both members and colleagues somewhere to store their bicycles at their centre. This gives greater encouragement to everybody to ditch the car and cycle instead! If your journey is five miles or more, you could save £500 or more per year by cycling, rather than driving!

  • Cycle to Work Scheme

All our colleagues have access to the cycle to work scheme. This allows them to purchase a brand-new bike at a heavily discounted price and is paid for over an extended period of time. Therefore, everyone who works at Everyone Active has access to a bike, should they wish to have one.

What can you do?

To help make this work, we need you to think about how you travel to your centre a little differently. If you’re cycling, don’t forget to plan in a little extra journey time, if you’re coming in by public transport, don’t forget that there may be a little walk at each end of the journey. Neither of these are bad things, however! Think of them as your warm up for your real workout when you arrive! If you know you live near someone who attends the same centre at roughly the same time, or goes to the same class as you, why not offer to car share? You get all the comfort of a car journey, but with half the emissions and fuel usage. Maybe take it in turns every time you’re going to the centre?
