Free family fun days announced at new leisure centre

Rainham Leisure Centre will host a free, family fun weekend, on Saturday 1st July and Sunday 2nd July.

Managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Havering Council, it was recently announced the brand new leisure centre is set to open its ‘dry side facilities’ ahead of schedule, with ‘wet facilities’ opening to the public later this summer.

To celebrate the early opening, the centre is hosting an open weekend, offering the local community two days of action packed and fun filled activity, all for free.

Running from 10am to 4pm on both days, an array of free activities will be on offer including: group exercise and gym sessions, cricket (on new recreation ground), use of the new children’s outside play area, along with face painters and balloon modellers.

Tom Fletcher, area contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “Saturday 1st July will mark the first day of the brand new Rainham Leisure Centre being open to the public, as we launch the ‘dry side’ facilities.

“We thought what better way to celebrate than by offering an invitation for the local community to come down for a whole weekend of fun filled, family activities – all for free.

“Everyone will have the opportunity to view the fantastic new site and take advantage of some of the activities and facilities they’ll be able to enjoy for years to come.”

The Leader of Havering Council, Councillor Ray Morgon, said: “The free open weekend at Rainham Leisure Centre is a great opportunity to get everyone involved and excited by the new facilities on offer.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the centre being enjoyed not only by the community in Rainham, but as a place to stay healthy and socialise for residents of the whole borough.”

The new leisure centre was developed by ReCreation, founded and owned by Olympians Becky Adlington OBE and Steve Parry MBE, which use the latest, innovative methods of design and construction to develop energy-efficient and minimally polluting facilities – for the recreation of local people but never at the expense of the local environment.

Becky Adlington, OBE, comments: ‘Whether as a training ground for the next generation of Olympians, or as a community hub in which to stay physically and mentally in superb health, all of us at ReCreation are thrilled to be developing this new leisure centre on behalf of Everyone Active for the people of Havering’.”
